Lactation Consultation & Postpartum Support

We will provide a complete health history and physical exam of both mother and baby.

Our assessment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Birth wound or incision assessment and care

  • Assessment of baby’s ability to latch and hands on support to improve positioning and latching (for nursing and for bottle feeding)

  • Baby’s weight before and after feeding to assess milk transfer while nursing

  • Observation of pumping session, flange fitting and troubleshooting pumping pain and other concerns

  • Work up and management of plug ducts, mastitis, oversupply, low supply and other lactation complications

  • Lots of lactation, latching and pumping education provided to mom and support persons

  • Local community referrals made based on needs

  • Management and integration of prescribed medications, OTC as well as supplements and herbs that may compliment breastfeeding

We will co-develop a plan of care at completion of visit to ensure a collaborative approach with your current healthcare providers in order to “close the gap in healthcare”!

Location: In-home visits available in Hoboken, Jersey City, Weehawken, UnionCity and Bergen County. Please email for details on appointments available outside of these areas.

Telehealth Lactation Consultation

We will provide (most) the above services by video conferencing. Please Email us for more information on this service.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation

  • Develop plan for breastfeeding in hospital setting or early hours

  • Learn how to hand express colostrum and breastmilk for those early hours and days

  • Learn how to avoid early complications and how to work through possible complications to minimize impact on lactation

  • Learn details of lactation, latch and milk making

  • Assessment of breasts /chest and past medical history and develop specific plan of care for mother and infants needs

  • Discuss useful tools, necessary lactation supplies and resources for lactating families

Location: Most prenatal consults are done via telehealth but arrangements may be possible for in person care upon request.

Services for Breastfeeding/Lactation Medicine

Consultation for diagnosis and treatment of complex breastfeeding issues including but not limited to the following.

  • Unresolved/recurrent clogged ducts,

  • Nipple wounds or unresolved nipple pain

  • Breast infections (mastitis) or unresolved breast pain while lactating

  • Treatment of nipple vasospasm

  • Diagnosis and treatment of low milk supply

  • Diagnosis and treatment for oversupply

  • Complicated weaning (or need for sudden weaning)

  • Induction of lactation or re-lactation

  • Management of maternal medical issues while lactating

Diagnosis and treatment plans may include: lab work-up, collection of breastmilk culture, use of both prescribed and over the counter remedies.

Location: If you reside within Hudson County I can see you in your home. Otherwise- I am offering virtual services to all other NJ residents. Telehealth and in-home services for lactation medicine appointments are not currently offered to residents outside of NJ. If you reside outside of NJ I can see you in my home office in Hoboken NJ.

Feeding/swallowing consultation and postpartum support

We will provide a complete health history and physical exam of your baby. We would like to see your baby’s feeding/swallowing skills on any feeding modality (example: breast /chest and/or bottle). 

Our assessment includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Assessment of baby’s ability to latch and hands on support to improve repositioning and latching (nursing and for bottle feeding) 

  • Assessment of bottle aversion and nipple flow rates 

  • Assessment of feeding/swallowing development in the context of feeding milestones

  • Assessment of the whole body and its’ impact on feeding/swallowing

  • Local community referrals made based on needs 

  • Support and education related to transition to solid foods

    Our follow-up services include, but are not limited to: 

  • Strategies to support feeding development with breast, bottle and solids

**We are not currently in network with any insurance company- a comprehensive superbill is provided for all services as an out of network provider. You may submit the superbill to you insurance to request reimbursement. I find we have the greatest success when you discuss with your insurance carrier what they will cover prior to our visit so we may tailor your superbill around their reimbursement codes.
